As a consultant ornithologist, Niall has carried out and been involved in many projects that required a bird survey as part of their consent conditions. He is most commonly contracted to survey braided rivers for companies wishing to remove gravel or carry out an operation that might impact the river in some way. Surveys can also be performed when they are not specified in consent conditions.
Five minute bird surveys can be performed in any environment to obtain an estimate of the avian biodiversity in the area.
Keystone Ecology is actively involved in the monitoring of the endemic, nationally critical, black-billed gull nests around Christchurch each summer season.
As part of the protection of our vulnerable bird species Keystone Ecology performs trapping operations that target mammalian pests. We also carry out baiting programmes to reduce the numbers of black-backed gulls.
